FUTURISM

MARCH 2023

A self-directed editorial and written article created for The Manor, Savannah College of Art and Design’s fashion publication. The project was developed through an original concept and creative direction, combining visual storytelling with written analysis to explore the evolving relationship between fashion and technology.

Throughout human history, we have witnessed major technological innovations in fashion, from the advent of the sewing machine to the rise of e-commerce. Starting off as purely functional, people relied on clothes to protect and keep them warm, but throughout time, fashion became an object of desire. Clothing became a marker of status, and what you wore began to shape identity.

Today, fashion technology is advancing at an unprecedented pace. The digital world opens new possibilities, from spray-on garments to automated production processes and UV-reactive collections. Designers are merging science and fashion to push boundaries beyond traditional design, exploring how innovation can extend across industries. As these developments continue, fashion moves toward a future that is more efficient, experimental, and multidisciplinary. The question becomes not just what we can create, but what the future of fashion will ultimately become.
